The Webb Boats Difference

Founder, Howard Webb, and the team at Webb Boats use traditional methods to restore and build handcraft wooden boats, utilising techniques passed down through many generations.

These techniques include skills such as planking, joining, and shaping wood, often using hand tools like chisels, saws, and mallets.

Complementing Webb Boats’ traditional expertise is the team’s ability to blend this with modern methods and materials, when and wherever required.  Webb Boats also has extensive experience building traditional or modern styled boat hulls and topsides in other materials including GRP or composite.

Please contact Howard to discuss your specific requirements.

Our genesis

Webb Boats was founded by Howard Webb, who began his career at Chatham Naval Dockyard, where he apprenticed as a shipwright.

Over many decades, Howard has acquired a unique array of skills and unsurpassed experience spanning all types of boat construction; from wood, through to composites, and GRP.

Howard is also renown in British traditional boatbuilding and restoration for his passion in helping to retain endangered heritage skills and crafts; including classical boatbuilding, and wooden vessel restoration.

Howard was approached by Norwich City College to help build the syllabus for heritage woodworking crafts, where he studied and was awarded an NVQ qualification in teaching, supporting the ongoing knowledge of those regional and nationally recognised skillsets which are at risk of extinction.

As a result of Howard’s teaching success, Webb Boats now also offers bespoke traditional woodworking skills workshops to groups and individuals.
